Until one is forced to believe that Art is Dead does one find resonance in the truth that Real Art Never Dies.

Illustrated Journey Exhibition

This is a repost of an entry I wrote on www.illustratedjourney.ca:

A big thank you to all who came out to the Illustrated Journey Youth Project exhibition last Saturday! We had such a fantastic time celebrating the comics that we created and it was definitely rewarding to share them with you all. Thanks to all the youth for the laughter, the stories and the friendships! Keep on drawing and storytelling!

What a beautiful day for an exhibition. Pear, Dergie and Jordon made some wonderful speeches!

We made even more comics at the comic making table. Los Castorcitos performed for us too.

If you have any stories or photos to share from the exhibition, or would like a copy of our comic book by donation, please write to illustratedjourney@gmail.com

Every year, our studio sends an end of season gift to our clients in Boston. This year I was asked to make plushies of our Fetch characters: Ruff Ruffman, Blossom and Chet. They finally received them in the mail today so I can now post them to show you!

Some more pictures :)

This is a repost of an entry I wrote on www.illustratedjourney.ca:

For our last Illustrated Journey Youth Project session for the summer, we had a bbq at Kitsilano beach. We ate lots of food, played ball, did handstands, jumped around and had a sunny day of fun.

This summer I have been involved with The Illustrated Journey Youth Project, where I help newly immigrated and/or refugee kids draw and make a comic of their journey to Canada. After three months, the kids have now completed their comics and we are publishing them into a book and presenting their artwork in an exhibition. If you are in the area, please feel free to visit us at the youth exhibition! ;)

If you'd like to come for a preview of the comic and meet the kids from past and present projects, we will have a booth at Vancouver's Comicon this Sunday, Sept 13th from 11-5pm.

Here is another invite and more information, about the project if you'd like to forward it to your friends. Designed and illustrated by me :)

Art School Reviews is featuring an article I wrote for them about my experience in the Commercial Animation program at Capilano University. Check it out!

A kind thank you to Mike who runs the site for asking me to contribute and being patient and keeping me accountable to finish the review. It's a great website and I wish I had something like this to help me when I was researching local art schools.

Just to warn you - the review is quite long because I felt Capilano was under-represented and thus there were a lot of details to cover!

Did you attend an art school in Vancouver? Write about it at Art School Reviews :)

A few of us attended a luau themed Dr Sketchy's life drawing session last week. It was a bit hard to draw in theatre seats, but it was entertaining nonetheless. Especially the ukelele singer. For more drawings from the night, check out May Waaaaa, Sarah and Meghan's posts! :)

To sensitive viewers: Please note that this post acknowledges we are quite naked underneath our clothes.

Congrats to the Okapodi team for receiving an Oscar nomination last week for Best Animated Short! It must be amazing to be up there with contenders like Pixar! I had the honor of seeing their gradshow debut two summers ago at the Gobelins summer school, and we were so blown away by their talent. The team was so kind to give us a class talk, even though they were in the middle of finishing the film. I wish them the best of luck!
